[ESC] Escape of the Penguins

Unfortunately Aspen Moon Preserve had opened more in the off season, meaning there weren't too many visitors. However the end of fall and beginning of winter season had proved not too terrible. Temperatures mostly remained around the 50s with a few cold windy days here and there and even a couple below freezing and flurry days. Persephone just barely managed to get by on the money earned from zoo guests and donations. Thankfully she had applied for a few grants and was awarded money, as well as signed up for some programs which paid her to take in certain species of animals.

Aspen Moon Preserve had went from starting with just an Emperor Penguin, Lesser Flamingo, Key Deer, Crested Caracara, Blue Wildebeest, a Sand Cat and two Grey Wolves to now having; one Lesser Flamingo, one Key Deer, one Crested Caracara,  one Blue Wildebeest,  five penguins between four species, one Ribbon Seal, one California Sea Lion, one Sand Cat, one Kit fox, four Grey Wolves, two Ethiopian Wolves, one Arctic Wolf, one Black Footed Ferret, one Powder Blue Tang, two Axolotls and one Lesser Mouse Deer.

With the newest grant Persephone had received three penguins. She had already had an Emperor Penguin breeding pair but now had a male Adélie Penguin, a male Galapagos Penguin and a female Gentoo Penguin. The Galapagos Penguin was an endangered species while the other two, along with her two Emperor Penguins were near threatened species.

Within a week of receiving the three new penguins, they had already escape from their enclosure, the Waning Rookery. The enclosure was set up to have an open viewing window for guests to potentially feel a penguin, seal, sea lion or other animal in the enclosure as they swam buy. However the penguins had quickly discovered they could jump and slide over the glass into uncharted areas.

Thankfully they had not been out long before Persephone had learned of their escape and went to get them. They had stayed relatively close to their enclosure thankfully. They wouldn't have been able to get outdoors anyways, but it made for easy finding. Persephone quickly rounded up the three penguins and put them back into their enclosures from the rear entrance so as to not encourage the jumping of the glass if she just put them back in the water there. Persephone now debated on closing up that little window or possibly putting in bars or something so they could not escape again. Or any other animal for that matter. She wanted her zoo to be safe not just for the guests but for the animals too.
