[ESC] Tiny Escape

Not long after Annamite came to the zoo, she and Quang Khai had a calf! Princess was a great surprise; Annamite was wild caught and as far as our vets can tell had never given birth before. We expected her to take longer to become comfortable in her enclosure enough to breed. Princess is a great boon to the conservation program; she may be the first recorded Saola birth in captitivty. 

To give the nervous mother and her daughter some peace, keepers set up a temporary barrier in the exhibit to keep the other occupants of the habitat away. Of course, a barrier erected to exclude an adult Saola may be less effective at keeping in a small mouse deer. Minnie promptly escaped into Annamite and Princess's side of the enclosure. Turns out she preferred some time away from the fairly boisterous Quang Khai as well.
