One of the main ways to earn Zoo Dollars, the in-game currency, is to create art for your animals. With everything you submit, you will earn cash and could trigger a special event. These events vary from having an animal escape or receiving a random animal for your zoo. These are RNG rolls, where ZD can range from 200 to 400 ZD per roll.

Artwork and Literature
You can draw/write about your animals in any situation to allow for plenty of variety, they don't have to be in a zoo. If you want added realism, however, you are certainly allowed to depict your animals in the zoo 100% of the time.
While there are few quality requirements, a little effort is encouraged! We want you to take every opportunity to have fun and maybe even improve in your skills while experimenting with new and unique creatures! Chibis, pixels, traditional etc. are allowed as long as the animal is identifiable.
Please Note: repetitive (with few differences), grindy, and/or rushed work may be sent back for corrections at the discretion of staff.
Examples:
[ X ] this example employs the "long background" technique to create multiple backgrounds from a single, larger piece. In order for this to count for rolls, the artist would need to add something unique to each piece to differentiate it from its siblings. [ X ] this example would pass as complex.
[ X ] this example is grindy. Using lined notebook paper or Post-It notes is not preferred.
[ X ] this example is rushed. The linework and coloring are messy and the elements are difficult to discern.
Art Rules
-
AI is NOT allowed in our group in any way.
- Animals from ZOO-ARPG may be drawn with other ARPGS however they may not be depicted as prey.
- ARPGS depicted as such cannot be counted as Guests.
-
Tracing and heavy referencing is allowed for rolls.
-
References should be photographic in nature rather than artwork by another person. An exception to this rule could be paleontological recreations/artwork but it should be accurately credited.
-
-
All rolls for a piece of art must go to one person. If multiple people submit the same piece for rolls, it will be denied. You are welcome to split rewards after the fact, however you see fit.
- If submitting multiple "panels" on one piece, make sure it is the same quest or prompt to avoid confusion.
- A vet quest and a seasonal prompt together would not be acceptable [ X ].
- A sheet of "general art" references is acceptable [ X ].
- References may not be claimed for prompts or quests and can only receive "General Art" rolls.
- Releases count as the same "prompt" and are welcome to be submitted together [ X ].
- If submitting animation frames for individual counting, they should be numbered and clearly separated. A large collage piece like [ X ] is acceptable or a gallery, like [ X ].
-
Reuse of Assets: assets may not be reused for rolls. Reference art cannot be reused for quests or prompts.
Please list the number of rolls in your art description!
Animal Limits:
In order to help the workload on the staff, there are animal limits in place.
Rollable per image/piece, 4.
- This means only 4 animals may be rolled for loot rewards. MORE THEN 4 ANIMALS MAY GAIN FAME BUT NOT LOOT.
Quest tokens per image/piece, 4.
Animals released per set, 4.

Animation:
Unique frames are counted separately when a labelled frame-by-frame breakdown is provided. A unique frame is defined as being a frame that is redrawn rather than only slightly shifted or minutely changed. Not every frame in an animation is considered a unique frame and these submissions will often require additional clarifications to score.
A large collage piece like [ X ] is acceptable or a gallery, like [ X ].
All animations receive the following bonuses one time, not by frame:
-
Minor (blinking/smile) +1 Roll

Background Movement +1 - 4 Rolls (Based on Complexity)

Additional Rolls may be awarded at staff discretion
Submitting Art
Submitting Art to the Gallery:
Submitting to the galleries does not earn rolls and is optional. This is purely for image hosting at this time. This is for adding images to your animal's personal gallery and so you can link the image when submitting for rolls later.
Step 1. Navigate to the Gallery on the navigation bar. Go to the sub-Gallery you wish to submit to and click the "+."
Step 2. Upload your image or enter your text for literature
Step 3. Enter a title and description if you wish. Also add any collaborators or participants.
Step 4. Add all characters to the submission (this will add the image to their individual gallery) and hit submit when you're done!
Submitting Art For Rolls:
This is how you get your rolls! All art submitted for rolls will be done this way, just make sure you submit under the correct prompt. Only quests require you to add a quest token item. If you do not have one, your submission will be rejected. (Unless you are submitting a proof comment instead from Deviantart in the description.)
-
References can be submitted by linking to the animal's profile as your submission. Reference "sheets" that are submitted to the general gallery or hosted elsewhere are also accepted.
-
Please do not submit prompts for art that has already received rolls unless you are submitting to earn fame from before the website. Note in the description that rolls have already been awarded.
-
Only the person submitting art as a prompt will be able to earn rolls. If doing art for someone else (such as for a trade or payment) the person recieving the rolls must submit the art as a prompt.
Step 1. Navigate to the Prompts page under World. Find your desired prompt, and hit "Submit Prompt." There is a General Art Prompt for misc. artwork.
Step 2. Enter the submission URL (could be a Zoo-ARPG gallery submission, DeviantArt submission, sta.sh file, etc.) and count the number of rolls you should earn in the description. Ignore the rewards section.
Step 3. Add EACH character featured in the submission. For each, click "Add Rewards" and add the amount of fame the character will earn.
-
Fame is the amount of rolls that would apply only to that specific character. You would not count the "Fullbody + Shading" of another animal in the same image. You would count all of the bonuses though!
-
If you are submitting a quest, make sure to add the quest token from your inventory found at the bottom of the submission page. If your quest is from the DeviantArt (before the website went live) simply add the URL to the comment in the description in lieu of adding the item token. [ X ]
Finally, click submit and you're done!
So What Did I Roll?
Here's how to check. After a staff member goes through to check everything is in order, all rolls are done by the website and automatically added to your account.
Step 1. Navigate to your Notifications. When your submission has been accepted, you'll receive a notification under "Submission Approvals."
Step 2. Click on "View Submission."
Step 3. Under "Rewards" it'll show you what you earned!
Quests
Sometimes when receiving rolls, you will unlock a random event in the form of a quest token. Completing these random events can earn you awards or unlock certain abilities as well as earn you extra rolls on submissions. Quests/prompts are a 3-roll minimum to complete (before bonuses) the exception being that literature does include the word count in the 3-roll minimum.
Examples of 3 roll minimums:
[ X ] Shaded headshot with a simple background.
[ X ] Shaded fullbody. Please try to make it look like the prompt in some way if you choose not to draw a background.
[ X ] Fullbody with simple background.
[ X ] Headshot with complex background.
[ X ] Literature, 400 words with detailed description of one animal. This piece is worth 7 rolls but the two staff members and quest bonuses are not counted towards the roll minimum!
FAQ
- How many animals can get rewards in an image?
- Four animals may get loot rewards. All animals in an image will gain fame ( think of fame as EXP for being drawn)
- I'm missing rewards! What do I do?
- You may post in the Bug-Reporting channel in the discord. Please be aware additional rewards are up to the user to tally and admins may miss them if they're not input properly by the player. Multiple instances of this happening may result in a warning up to temporary restriction of gameplay.
- What are rolls?
- Rolls are the rewards you get from drawing your animals.
- How do I submit rolls for someone else? ( Like an art payment or trade?)
- You submit the art to the correct gallery and then the person who the art is for will submit the art via the prompts tab. Listing them as collaborater will help admins roll the art correctly and will also ping the user.
- If I submit a token, are the rewards per token or per image.
- Per token.
- Can I post my art elsewhere and have it rolled?
- Yes but all art must be PUBLIC. Admins are not required to have accounts to other sites and as such, all art must be able to be veiwed by public access.
