Toffee ran up to Primavera with her normal dumb-stricken wide grin on her face. She sat down on the hard terrain, her tail wagging behind her. Whenever she would wag her tail, funnily enough, sand and dirt would blow into the air. It would feel really weird on her tail, and it would taste awful to clean her backside afterward. But that wasn't going to stop her anytime soon! She loves expressing her happiness and joy to those around her! It's alright if all she has to do afterward is deal with a bit of dirt on her fur!

"Hello there, Toffee! We're gonna be learning a new trick today! Are you excited?!"

Toffee's tail wagged even harder, sending more dirt and dust into the air. But she eagerly nodded her head.

"Beyond ready, sir!! What are we gonna do today?!"

"I'm going to teach you how to shake hands! Do you know what that is?"

Toffee paused in her wagging, her head tilted to the side as she thought for a moment. But, after a bit of thinking, she shook her head. "Nope! Not a clue!"

"That's alright! This is shaking hands." The taur bent his knees so he could reach Toffee's knees. Gently, the taur took one of her paws and shook it up and down. "This is shaking hands. Do you understand? Do you think you can do it this time?" Primaveras asked as he set her paw back down to the dirt.

Toffee blinked at what Prima was doing, then she looked down to her paws once he let her go. "That was shaking hands? Uh... Um... I suppose I could do it? But that's all there is to it? I thought there would be more..."

"Nope! That's it! It's simple stuff, isn't it?"

"Y-Yeah!" Toffee nervously chewed her lip. What if she did this wrong? Would Primavera be upset at her? He just said it was simple, if she can't figure this out then...would that mean that she's stupid? Would Primavera call her stupid-

No, Toffee, you're doing it again, you're starting to spiral!

"U-Um... Uh... Like...this?" Toffee rose her paw and placed it on Primavera's outstretched palm.

"Exactly like that! You did it! Great job, Toffee! You did an excellent job! Now, this time do it when I command you to. Okay?"

"Okay!" Toffee started wagging her tail again, Primavera didn't call her stupid like she thought he would! Well...it's not like he's ever done it before now, so there's no reason for him to do it yet... But still, he could start calling her that today! If she just focuses maybe he won't have to start calling her that-

Toffee jumped slightly, her different colored fur even fluffed up in her sudden shock, but she shook her head and tried to focus. Focus, Toffee! This is no time to be a scary cat like the others say that you are! It's time to be strong!

She squeaked as she placed her paw in Primavera's outstretched palm once again, and though she couldn't help it, her fur started fluffing again. It was even beginning to tremble. Did she do it right? Was that good enough? She hoped that was okay enough, cause she was not sure-

Why is he bending down to her level? What is going on?

Toffee blinked when she suddenly had taur arms wrapped around her fluffy neck. All she could do was sit there and freeze, unsure what was happening.

"There's no need to be so scared all the time, Toffee, I won't ever hurt you here. I won't ever yell at you. I know you had a rough life before you arrived but there's no need to be so scared here. I know it'll take a bit of time for you to trust me and to relax but... I just wanted to tell you that. I came here to spend some time with you and tell you that. It's going to be alright, I'll protect you with my life. I'm incredibly proud of you. I'm proud that you were able to learn this so quickly, and proud of how far you have come. You make me proud every single day. I'll ensure nobody ever hurts you again, okay, Toffee?"

It took everything in Toffee not to start crying right then and there. She sniffled and nodded her head. "I-I understand, sir."

"And you don't need to call me sir." Primavera pulled back slightly so he could smile down at her, "You don't need to be so formal around friends, right? I consider you my friend, so there's no need for that."

"You...You...do...? You... think we're friends?" Primavera chuckled, "From the moment you arrived here I consider us to be friends. How about you? Do you consider us to be friends?"

Toffee couldn't hold it in any longer. Tears started falling down her cheeks. Despite that, her tail started wagging even harder and she gave a wet chuckle. "Y-Yes!" She nodded frantically, "I do! I think we are! You're the first friend I've ever had then!"

"You're first friend? I highly doubt that Toffee, but if you say so!"

"N-No, it's true! I won't ever lie to you, S-Primavera!"

Primavera smiled softly, "Then I'm happy that I'm your first friend ever, Toffee."
